Spotcovr v2!

Finally, it's done! Spotcovr v2 may not look very different on the surface, but it's a brand new engine there under the hood! We added some good shit, removed some bad shit, and moved some other crap around.

We're back!

Spotcovr got some new bearings installed. These are so smooth, it totally warrants the v2. We're rolling faster than we ever have before. So what's changed?

1. Complete overhaul of the back-end system. Spotcovr no longer runs on Dudepress, but now proudly supports Plant! This makes it easy for us to maintain the site, and keep up with all the changes going on.

2. Reprogrammed maps for faster spot browsing and finding what you want easier.

3. Better browsing system handles international spots much better, and can deal with every country's localities. Wanna see just spots in Tennessee? How about the dutch province of Zuid-Holland?

4. No more Flickr integration. We finally got our own photo uploading tools! Check this feature out on Channel Street Skatepark or The etnies Park. Get uploading!

5. We changed the layout of the spot pages to put more emphasis on the map, the photos and the description of the spot. All for maximum usability!

6. Tag pages are finally here too. It was about time. Wanna go skate a ditch? How about a pool?

7. If you have an account, there's now a place where you can keep track of everything that applies to you. A map of your spots, comments made on your spots and your account info, all grouped together.

And those are just the main things. Keep adding those spots and keep skating!

A Look Behind The Scenes

It seems to have been pretty quiet here on the development side of Spotcovr. A couple spots get added every other day (thanks loyalists!), but other than that... nothing.

Well, not really. It fact, Spotcovr is being molested pretty hard. We're working on a number of features to improve the site and there's been some minor obstacles along the way *cough* framework issues *cough* which we're currently resolving.

As you may have noticed, there's some problems brewing on the current site too. We've been getting hit pretty hard by spam comments lately, and the location finder on the add a spot page breaks easily when searching for non-US locations. This will all definitely be fixed in the updates on the horizon, coupled with a working tag system (about time) and some new things I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Just to let you know that we're not dead. We're laying low. Slowly rolling along... keep your eyes open.

RSS feeds hittin' Spotcovr! All spots now have their own comment RSS feed, allowing you to keep updated on comments on your favorite spots. Also, a new user feed keeps you updated on all your spots.

For all us proud RSS users out there, Spotcovr now has its first two RSS feeds in place!

All spots now have their own comment RSS feed, allowing you to keep updated on comments on your favorite spots. So don't miss out on important events... go check out Hubba Hideout while you can!

The other feed is perhaps the most important, and keeps you updated on comments on all the spots you added. You can find it on your profile page, as indicated in the image above. Some more sweet RSS feeds are on the way, so subscribe to the news feed and RSS the RSS updates... fuck yeah!

Browse Happy!

A new browsing system! Yes. As you can see, our browsing system has got some fancy new features, such as clustering and an auto-updating list, to make you find your spots much more easily. In addition to that, we've given the search box an overhaul and added some sweet maps to the search system!

It's been a while, but we're finally moving somewhere.

First of all - thanks to everyone who's contributed to Spotcovr over the latest couple of months. We're proud to have the first Israeli spot on our site. Sick! Israel is totally gonna be the new Barcelona.

The browsing system has been flawed for a while, making spots really difficult to find, so I'm glad to announce the new browsing system used in the maps and on the browse page. The maps are now enhanced with a sweet clustering system, which clusters spots which lie close together into a big "clusterfuck" icon. Clicking on it will enable you to zoom in, and let you explore different locations much more easily. On the browse page, whenever the map refreshes, the spot list below the map is automatically updated to reflect the spots you see on screen.

Also, the search has been improved. City and country searches will now provide you with a map on the search/browse page. For example, check out the sweet Nashville cityscape or the spots from our Ozzy friends in Melbourne. Hopefully there'll be some great cityscapes coming up soon. All of this new functionality is a little taxing for our friend Internet Explorer, but I urge anyone who's still using that browser to upgrade to a better browser. It took way to long to even get this stuff working on IE6 and IE7. For anyone who's using Safari or Opera, please inform us if there's shit broken or otherwise looking strange in regard to the site.

So much for the first big update, and look forward to some smaller updates coming your way really soon. Gotta keep it rolling.

A month of inactivity in the real world feels like three decades on the web. Spotcovr took a little time off to visit certain obscure places in Europe and Asia and consequently fell into a slump. However, we're back now and stoked to start improving the site. Thanks to everyone who contributed, Spotcovr reached the 200-spot mark with next to no advertising. Amazing!

Over the next weeks, you can expect a number of things to be changed on Spotcovr. One of the main things will be a better browsing system combined with RSS feeds to keep you heads updated. As the changes/features roll out, you'll notice this section be updated accordingly. As always, if there's anything you'd like to tell us, get in touch!

Keep exploring!
